Lightward is an original acrylic painting from Bodil Greiner’s Seasons series, exploring winter, frost, reflection and the quiet search for light.

A frozen winter landscape opens into depth, pale blue light and the dark reflection of a lake. Among the birch trees stands one tree that grows at an angle — not towards the sky, but towards the light reflected in the water.

It is a small reminder that there is not always one right direction to grow.

Lightward brings a sense of stillness, depth and quiet reflection into a room. Its cool Nordic palette and atmospheric winter landscape work naturally in contemporary and Scandinavian interiors, while the unusual birch tree gives the painting a personal story and a point to return to.

The painting can create a calm visual anchor in a living room, bedroom, hallway, office, meeting room or other space where nature, light and a sense of tranquillity are welcome.

You are always welcome to contact me if you have any questions about the artwork. The artwork can be viewed in person by appointment.

Framing

For collectors who wish to add an elegant finishing touch, ‘Season X – Lightward’ can be professionally framed to complement both contemporary and classic interior, for example in an oak frame.

I am happy to discuss framing options to ensure the artwork fits beautifully into your home and personal style.

Description

Season X – Lightward

Sometimes, you do not have to grow straight to find the light.

There is something almost magical about a winter landscape.

The cold changes everything. The air becomes sharper. The colours become quieter.
Frost settles over the landscape and turns even the smallest details into something extraordinary.

In Lightward, I wanted to capture that particular kind of winter beauty — the stillness, the coldness and the fascination of looking into a landscape transformed by frost. The birch trees stand quietly in the winter landscape, reaching upwards as birch trees naturally do. They need light, and they tend to grow towards it. But one tree is different. It grows at an angle. It has found its light somewhere else. Instead of reaching directly towards the sky, the tree finds the light in the reflection of the water.

And somehow, it works. It has found the place where it thrives.

Finding your own light

That tree became an important part of the meaning behind the painting. We often think of growth as moving in a particular direction. Standing straight. Following the expected path. Reaching upwards. But perhaps there is more than one way to find the light. Perhaps sometimes the right direction is the one that looks slightly different from everyone else’s.

The tree in Lightward does not need to straighten itself out. It has found its own way. Its own light. And it is doing exactly what this particular tree needs to do to thrive. That is what I love about it.

The winter landscape creates a feeling of distance and depth. The pale blue sky, frosted birch trees and dark water create a quiet meeting between coldness and light. The reflection in the lake becomes more than simply a reflection of the landscape. It becomes part of the story.

Light can be found in unexpected places. Sometimes it is above us. Sometimes it is reflected back to us. And sometimes we find it by looking in a completely different direction.

Lightward is an original acrylic painting from my Seasons series, a body of work exploring nature, light, atmosphere and the different ways we experience the world around us.

The painting is deliberately quiet. It does not need to dominate a room to make an impression.

Instead, it can become something you return to. A landscape to pause in. A place to rest your eyes. A reminder of winter’s strange beauty — and of the possibility of finding your own direction.

A painting for a quiet space

With its cool blue, grey and white tones, Lightward can work particularly well in a Nordic or contemporary interior.

In a living room, it can bring a sense of calm and spaciousness. In a bedroom, its winter atmosphere can create a quiet, contemplative feeling. In a hallway, it can become a landscape that welcomes you into the home. In an office, meeting room, clinic or other professional space, it can introduce nature, depth and a softer visual atmosphere without becoming overwhelming.

And perhaps, if you live with it for a while, you will notice the crooked birch tree too. Perhaps you will see that it is not trying to become straight. It has simply found its own way towards the light.

That is Lightward.

Lightward is part of the Seasons series.
