‘Northern Blue’ is an original acrylic and oil pastel painting exploring the quiet strength that can exist even when life feels unsettled.

At the centre of the painting stands a single dandelion seed head. Unlike the bright yellow flower in ‘Catching Light – Warm Yellow’, this dandelion has reached another stage of its life. It stands beneath the moonlight, delicate and almost weightless, yet remarkably strong.

There is movement and unrest beneath it. The dark shapes rising from the bottom of the painting create a sense of something moving, shifting, or trying to disturb the stillness. Yet the seed head remains almost completely untouched. It stands with a quiet, majestic presence, reaching towards the soft light of the moon.

For me, the dandelion becomes a symbol of courage and resilience. It does not need to fight the movement around it. It simply remains rooted in its own place, holding its ground while the world around it changes.

The deep blue and muted tones create the atmosphere of a northern night, while the soft moonlight gives the painting a gentle sense of hope and direction. The movement in the darker areas is not only about unrest – it is also about life. Nature is never completely still, and neither are we.
