The story behind the Artwork

The King’s Garden was created as a direct inspiration from The King’s Garden (Kongens Have) in the heart of Copenhagen. For many years, this historic park has been a peaceful refuge where I have enjoyed slowing down, observing the changing light and simply being present amid the city’s energy.

At the centre of the drawing stands the Hercules and the Lion statue, framed by the garden’s carefully sculpted trees and elegant architecture. While the garden offers calm, beauty and nature, the statue also tells a deeper story. It symbolises strength, power and victory, reminding us that history and authority are woven into even the most peaceful landscapes.

This contrast became the inspiration for the artwork. It explores how nature, art and history exist side by side, and how places of great beauty can also carry stories of power and human ambition.

Created with thousands of hand-drawn fineliner lines, The King’s Garden invites you to pause, discover the details and experience one of Copenhagen’s most treasured green spaces through a quieter perspective.
